Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor

Yeah yeah, the image would have been to long to post whole so I had to cut it in half, but that isn’t stopping me from giving you a mini tour of how I have my Finder toolbar configured and why.
Back and Forward
This is self-explanatory. It’s the easiest way to maneuver back and forth within the Finder. And since there is no longer that multitouch gesture to flick back and forth (unless you use the convoluted, hold down a keyboard button with a Magic Trackpad method), it’s pretty much the only way with a mouse.
While on the topic though, I do favor the column layout in the Finder which makes seeing your folder path, and moving in and out of it, far easier. Also, you can use the ⌘+[ or ] keyboard shortcuts to move back and forth through the Finder as well.
View Selector
While, like stated above, I am usually always in the column view, it’s nice to have an easy way to switch to another. Any one except for Cover Flow, that is.
Action
A handy menu filled with options. This should be in everyone’s toolbar.
Arrange By
This is by far the fastest way to easily switch the sorting method to things like Date, Kind, Size, Name, Application, etc.
Path
It seems like I’m a little bit paranoid about my paths while using the Finder. But I suppose one can never have too many ways to quickly swap between folders. This toolbar item is indeed very handy at times.
Get Info and Trash
These are both things that I do more often than not with a keyboard shortcut (⌘+i and ⌘+Delete respectively), but for the times when my hand is already on the mouse and near the toolbar anyway, having a quick button to click is much faster.
THAT’S HOW I HAVE my Finder toolbar customized. (Some apps like Dropbox even have their own special Finder toolbar icons. I just never used the Dropbox one, thus the omission in my toolbar.) You can right click on your toolbar to configure your own - and that works for any toolbar in Mac OS X.
