Launchpad Trouble

Aside from the fact that I don’t think I have ever once used Launchpad, when I first installed Lion I did take a quick peek. Only, what I found was rather upsetting. Launchpad was a complete mess. It was riddled with duplicates and totally disorganized.

That was not okay.

So I took to the internet and came across this. It’s a little system preference utility that allows you to show and hide whatever applications you would like to in Launchpad. Nifty indeed, but not the sort of thing that solved the problem for me. And I’ll tell you why. To me, these sorts of applications are simply bandages for the real problem. Now I just have another strange app running on my system that simply hides things from the Launchpad by running a Terminal command without me seeing it. The fact of the matter was that for one reason or another, after all these years of crust building up on my system, my Mac was presenting duplicates.

So I did a clean install of Lion.

I know, big jump in logic there. Let me be clear right now by saying that I am not suggesting that you do a clean install simply to fix up Launchpad. I had been wanting to do a clean install anyway, and the truth is that it did fix my Launchpad problems. And it was a great thing to do anyway.

And so, if you are having some trouble with Launchpad, or really anything else on your system, a good clean install is sure to fix it, along with plenty of other side benefits.

But I still don’t use Launchpad.
